Great, informative kids book!
Major Dad (Intimate Moments , No 876)
Published in Paperback by Silhouette (August, 1998)
Average review score:

Emotional and sweet, as it is delightful! This book made my day; I swear I couldn't put it down! The charachters seemed to leep from the page with their words, and tremendous hardships. The author, Shelley Cooper, breathed life into them so well, that I felt as though I had a long conversation with the the hero and heroine. She is truly a talent, and her voice sings. Miss Cooper truly has a unique voice all her own.

The Man in the Green Chevy
Published in Paperback by Harlequin (May, 1991)
Average review score:

A great mild-mannered new detective! What a find! Although the book is out-of-print, do yourself a favor and check out your local bookstores and other venues, as it's definitely worth a read!
Meet Milt Kovak, divorced, overweight, mid-40s Chief Deputy of Prophesy County, Oklahoma.
When his sleepy little burg and the surrounding towns suddenly get some horrific murders, Milt's cool intuition and great people-skills are put to the test.
Someone is raping and killing old ladies of the county, truly heinous crimes.
His only witness,a married Laura Johnson with 3 children and a frequently absent husband, professes to seeing a green Chevy in the vicinity of the murder scene.
As Milt begins his search, he quickly finds himself drawn to beautiful Laura and her wonderful kids and finds himself falling in love with her (as if matters weren't bad enough!)
The book is well-written and you really get a feel for small-town Oklahoma life suddenly thrown into terror by this frightening crime spree.
The character of Milt is smartly drawn and extremely believable, as he does much of his thinking with his heart as well as his head.
This is the introductory book in the Milt Kovak series and (I believe) the author's first book. I was pleasantly surprised how quickly I flew through the pages, and was disappointed when I knew the end was getting closer (with a nice little twist!) so I'm going to try and find the next book in the series through my used book dealer.

I highly recommend this book for anyone who likes a soft-boiled mystery with great dialogue and a small-town setting.
Thanks, Ms. Cooper for a pleasurable read!
(Now if we can only get Worldwide Mysteries to reprint the entire Milt Kovak series so everyone can enjoy then easily without the big search, we'll be in business!

Managing Windows NT Server 4
Published in Paperback by New Riders Publishing (December, 1996)
Average review score:

This is a very well-informed and in-depth technical referencUnlike many books of this genre, Managing Windows NT server 4.0 is a well thought out analysis of each component of Windows NT server and how they interrelate. Rather than skim the surface, this book plunges head-first into the depths of the operating system to increase the reader's understanding of Microsoft's flagship product.
Examples of this include the chapter on Disk Administrator, which stands out as a sterling example of technical reference. Clear, concise and revealing, it is a pleasure to read.
The command-line technical reference is also stunning in its depth, and often reveals more items than digging through the manuals.
In all, an excellent volume.

The Manual of Horsemanship/the Official Manual of the Pony Club
Published in Hardcover by Half Halt Pr (April, 1993)
Average review score:

Excellent ResourceThere are several editions of this book, I believe, but no matter which one you get, I guarantee that you will continue to look to it for reference. I consider it a better single resource than any of the USPC books. It covers a very wide variety of topics and gives plenty of information about them. The insides of the cover (front and back, at least on mine) have conformation and common injuries/faults, which are wonderful for a quick review.

Manual of Panic-Focused Psychodynamic Psychotherapy
Published in Hardcover by Amer Psychiatric Pr (15 January, 1997)
Average review score:

An Advance in Psychodynamic PsychotherapyPsychodynamic psychotherapy is a widespread treatment that has unfortunately not received the empirical testing it deserves. One reason that has been cited for its lack of research is the difficulty in standardizing psychodynamic psychotherapy in a manual form so that therapists can be trained to deliver it reliably. Dr. Milrod and her colleagues have met this challenge. Their book clearly describes how psychodynamic psychotherapy can be focused to treat panic disorder, a common and disabling but treatable condition. The book serves as the treatment manual for an ongoing comparative psychotherapy study at Cornell University in New York City, where Panic-Focused Psychodynamic Psychotherapy is being compared to another treatment to test its efficacy. The authors are knowledgeable psychoanalysts. Their well-written book should be helpful to psychodynamic psychotherapists, and perhaps to patients with panic as well. It represents an important advance for the field.

Measuring Infinity and Other Poems
Published in Audio CD by David Cooper (May, 2002)
Average review score:

MeasuredA clever approach to an all too tired medium, Captivating and at times welcomingly thick with proverb and rhyme. Verses seem to twist and redefine themselves with a subtlety that will insist throe reexamination. From strictly sentimental to dense and challenging and many other feats. This is a smooth start to what could be a great future for a highly intellectual poet of the great Sonoma County brainwave.

Meet Danitra Brown
Published in Paperback by HarperTrophy (September, 1997)
Average review score:

The Absolutely Wonderful Meet Danitra BrownAs a teacher for many years I have read and shared hundreds of books with students. This one is exceptional. Last year, desperate to really reach my third grade, low-achieving, inner city students, I looked through some books that I had put away. MEET DANITRA BROWN was among them, but for some reason I never read it before that moment. I took it to school the next day, hoping the children would enjoy the book, but not daring to hope for more. This powerfully poignant book elicited dialogue from my students as well as written responses that I didn't know was possible. What a motivator! Just because I taught third graders, please do not doubt the power of the text to transcend any age. The older a person the more they will be able to bring to the text. I would love to use this book with a group of inner city high school students. The rhythm and punch of the poetry(no turn-off to boys or girls at all)pulls the listener/reader in. The illustrations are icing on the (tough) cake of life. The lessons and morals within Nikki Grimes' language are unforgettable. I cannot say enough about the quality of this book except this: Fabulous!

Metaphysics: The Classic Readings
Published in Paperback by Blackwell Publishers (March, 2000)
Average review score:

An excellent selection from a broad range of approaches.David Cooper does a fantastic job of selecting key excerpts from the great works in Metaphysics covering the dawn of Greek philosophy up through Heidegger. He also includes some key Eastern texts, something missing from many anthologies. Cooper organizes the works in a logical, historical progression and situates them nicely with brief introductions to each selection. This is a very good textbook for any Metaphysics course and also a good purchase for any student of lover of philosophy who simply doesn't have the time or moneyto read through the entire texts of Kant, Heidegger, Schopenhauer, Spinoza, etc. Also, in reading through massive, difficult texts such as The Critique of Pure Reason or Being and Time it can be hard to know exactly what you are looking for. What Cooper does is cut to some of the most relevant sections of these works. I feel that dealing with the primary texts is necessary and rewarding for those teaching or taking Metaphysics. For all of those people, I would highly recommend this book.

Mirrors of Paradise: The Gardens of Fernando Caruncho
Published in Hardcover by The Monacelli Press (18 December, 2000)
Average review score:

A Study Of Landscape As A Facet Of The ImaginationMirrors of Paradise is a truly inspired presentation of a diverse sampling of Fernando Caruncho's architectural genius writ large on the landscape. A highly imaginative gardener by disposition, Caruncho possesses an idiosyncratic eye for wrinkles in the formal geometry of what is usually mundane. And the capacity to ingeniously comment on what he observes through design innovations which exhibit both wit and poignancy. To take but one example of this phenomena, in the Ollauri Garden which was designed in the mid nineteen-eighties, where a traditional water jet might be placed in the middle of numerous individual fountains making up a large flat reflecting pool, Caruncho plants single tall cypress trees in stone troughs. What a revelation this transformation of the ordinary creates! Such touches of imaginative whimsy permeate this man's work. But it is not caprice for its own sake. Every action is deliberate and conveys meaning. Every formal element tells a story. Mirrors Of Paradise is exceptionally well-designed, well-written, and contains a wealth of photographic images that do great justice to a man's work which is visually stunning, intellectually sophisticated and imaginatively pure.
As a school project my eight year old nephew has been building a simple telephone, assisted by his grandfather, a nuclear engineer, and myself, his electrical engineer auntie. We've had him read Jason Cooper's three books, on Electricity, Sound, and Magnets, before beginning to build his project and then write his report. Already he is relating what he's read to what he sees around him in the technology he uses daily, which up to now, has seemed commonplace. His eyes are being opened by knowledge and he percieves the world differently because of what he has read.
Jason Cooper may be changing our world's future by reaching children's minds today.
